When Importing SMD Files use the Blender Source Tools Addon In Order to Upload the Model into VRCHat At the top of Unity Click on VRChatSDK>Show Build Control PanelĪfter the Control Panel Pops up Follow the Directions to Upload the Model as an Avatar in VRChatĪfter the Model is Uploaded then You are able to Launch VRChat & Start Using the Avatar Technically Any Shader Could Be Used but a Good Standard Avatar Uses Cubed Paradox & Usually Has Eye Tracking & Visemes but thats Up to YouĪfter the Materials are Setup & One is Ready Drag the Model itself into the Hierarchy Panel so that it is Centered & Able to be seen in UnityĪfter the Model is in the Hierarchy Panel then Click on it & Add a New Component Called VRC_Avatar_Descriptor that way the Model is able to be used for VRChatĪfter that Component is Added then Change the Values In the Avatar Descriptor's View Position to Make the Little Grey Ball be in between the Models Eyes & About 2-5 Inches into Their Head that way when Using the Model You wont have to worry much about the view when using VR or Desktop ModeĪfter the Model has its Avatar Descriptor Fully Setup then One is able to Upload the Model as an avatar When All Materials are Using the New Shader then Tweak Each Material to Look Good for if it Doesn't Already Then Go into the Materials Folder that was Created & Select All the Materials with Ctrl+A & Change the Shader to Cubed Paradox Flat Lit Toon Once Both the Textures & Model Are Imported Click on the Model & In the Inspector Panel Click on Rig & Set it to Humanoid then ApplyĪfter the Rig is a Humanoid Rig then Click on Materials & Set it to Use External Materials then ApplyĪfter that is done the Model should be a Humanoid Model with External Materials & Import Model into Assets>"Model Folder" So Ideally Import Textures into Assets>"Model Folder">Textures Once Both Folders are Created Import All Textures for The Model into the Textures Folder That was Created & After the Textures are Imported then Import the Model itself into The Folder You Created that Contains the Textures Folder Ok So for Unity Since all the Addons are installed Already All One has to do is Create a Folder in the Assets Panel & Name it to what The Model is & Go into that Folder & Create Another Folder Called Textures Once the Model is Exported as FBX Format then One is ready to Import it into Unity In Order to Export the Model Click File>Export>FBX The Reason I Say FBX is Because FBX is the Normal Format for VRChat Models & Any Model that is Compatible with Many Programs When the Textures are Translated & the Model is Fixed Then If Everything Looks Good then One Could Export the Model to Unity To Setup Everything in there for VRChat If One would want Their Model to Have Lipsync or Eye Tracking then In the Cats Blender Addon Click on Eye Tracking & Set That Up & Then Click on Visemes & Set That Up Too If You Have Any Problems with the Eye Tracking or Visemes Google it to see how to fix that & Srry that i'm not Including it in this guide I May Implement it Later When Ready Open Blender & Import a Model & Use the Cats Blender Addon to Translate & Fix the Model by Opening the Addon Panel with N & Clicking on Cats>Model Options>Translate All & Then Fix Model It is Very Important to Keep One's VRChat Project Files Both in Unity & On Their PC Organized to where One could Find Things Easier Once Both Programs Have their Addons Installed then One could Start Working on Models For VRChat Unity Addons are Installed Via Importing a Unity Package File or Dragging the Addon Folder into the Assets Panel Once Both Programs are Installed then Install the Addons to the Programs such as Blender Addons Stay installed & Unity Addons Are installed Per Projectīlender Addons are Installed Via Either File>Preferences>Addons>Install Addon or Edit>Preferences>Addons>Install So for VRChat One would Need to Have Both Unity & Blender Installed & Working Fully Before Adding Addons Blender: - Crowbar: /ZeqMacaw/Crowbar/re… Cubed Paradox Shader: /cubedparadox/Cubeds… Psk/Psa Import Addon: /Befzz/blender3d_imp… Cats Blender Addon: /michaeldegroot/cats… Hello & This is a Guide for Blender & Unity of what Addons to Use For Making/Fixing Models to Use in VRChat.
